The brand new TDS Recon X-Series rugged handheld
computer has just been released. It delivers maximum
performance and reliability in a lightweight,
extremely rugged design that's easy to carry.
Featuring optional embedded Bluetooth and 802.11g
wireless, the waterproof Recon weighs just 17
ounces, meets military specifications for drops,
vibration, and both high and low temperature
operation, and runs Windows Mobile 5.0. The Recon
works wherever and whenever you need it. It has a
screen that is very easy to read, even in bright
sunlight.
The Recon X series Pocket PC comes in two clock
speeds; 200 Mhz and 400 Mhz. The Recon 400 X is
definitely recommended if the unit will be used with
imagery or large data sets. Both the Recon 200 X and
the 400 X models have more RAM than the previous
versions. They also come with Windows Mobile 5.0,
the latest operating system from Microsoft for
Pocket PCs.
Windows
Mobile 5.0 provides a unique and exceptional feature
for safe guarding data and programs. Persistent
storage has been added to Pocket PCs running Windows
Mobile 5. This will help ensure that users don’t
lose important data when devices run out of battery
power. In addition, Pocket PC’s should have a
significant increase in battery power, yielding as
much as 30 percent more battery life on a charge. To

You can count on the Recon for portability, data
security and maximum operating time. Its innovative
modular design provides customization options to
suit different applications. The optional Bluetooth
capability allows the Recon X to communicate with a
variety of other Bluetooth devices such as the
SXBlue GPS unit, laptop computers, and Bluetooth
enabled printers.
If you need wireless capability with a longer
distance, the Recon X is available with Wireless
802.11G as an option. This allows the Recon X to
have network access to your office wireless system
or internet access at various “hotspots”.
We have seen many clients try to turn consumer
Pocket PC’s into field units by utilizing a
waterproof case. This frequently results in lost
data and doing the job twice. Our experience has
been that handhelds designed for use in rugged field
conditions will always outlast the consumer units
used in generic cases. The Recon X is the latest
version of a very well built, reliable and trusted
field handheld.
