GIS mapping software that facilitates the way foresters make maps, calculate acres, and create reports. A very powerful and easy-to-use Windows program (95, 98, and NT) that brings in files from a variety of GIS and CAD sources including ArcINFO, ArcCAD, and AutoCAD. Scanned or raster images from aerial photos, USGS quad maps, and other sources can be brought in also using the built-in imager module. Acreages on larger ownerships can be calculated with three mouse clicks. “Heads-up” digitizing allows foresters to easily add new layers (harvest boundaries, roads, streams, timber stands, and ownership boundaries), delineate timber types and more. ForestVIEW comes with a complete image referencing program, on-line help, and a tutorial. (Sold as an extension to ArcView Version 3.2 and 3.3)

ForestVIEW links to Atterbury Consultants’ FLIPS 04 program with the click of a button. Forest inventory data in FLIPS 98 can automatically have acreages updated by ForestVIEW. The link can also update timber type descriptions in ForestVIEW. This process takes only seconds to complete and adds tremendous versatility to the GIS system.

ForestVIEW runs in Windows 98, NT, 2000, and ME. ForestVIEW runs in Windows XP with version 3.2 of ArcView, but not consistently with version 3.3 of ArcView.

The software will:

Import, reference, and “rubber sheet” scanned aerial photos, satellite images/other types of imagery
Perform overlay processing
Automatically buffer different types of
Calculate acres on polygons
Add roads, type lines and other data to maps
Output maps to other map and GIS programs (ESRI compatible)
Add traverse data using built-in traverse module

All spreadsheets are sized for the pocket PC 1/4 VGA screen. They are easily adaptable for the user's needs.

Some of the spreadsheets, such as the ones calculating Scribner Volume, include tables that require considerable effort to reproduce. Purchasers of this set have permission to use portions of these spreadsheets in other applications. This can save considerable time.
